"I am a millennial. Generation Y; born between the birth of AIDS and 9/11, give or take. They call us the global generation. We are known for our entitlement and narcissism. Some say it’s because we’re the first generation where every kid gets a trophy just for showing up. Others think it’s because social media allows us to post when we fart or have a sandwich for all the world to see. But it seems our one defining trait is a numbness to the world. An indifference to suffering.

My artwork focuses on identity and the ideals of a narcissistic society. It consists of a combination of experiences from my upbringing and aspects of personal matters that comment on an epoch of non-conformity and rebellion that is often misunderstood for defiance and disobedience. One could call it a memoir where I use pop culture icons and myself as the subjects to emphasis the ideals of my generation. Although I include pop-culture references I still intend for the artwork to mostly revolve around myself. I was raised in the Catholic Church which became a major source for my ideas and imagery. I use pop culture references not only because of the symbolism they hold for myself, but also for commenting on my generation as a whole. Pop culture plays a bigger role in this generation than ever before, all because of the idea of fame. We live in a day and age where everyone wants their fifteen seconds, doing whatever they want or can to stand out, and I am not ashamed to say that I am no exception. I am a millennial.
